Port of Oakland

Goals

By 2022, The Port of Oakland intends to:

  1. "Grow net revenue"

  2. "Serve the community"

  3. "Care for our environment"

How does it impact you?

The Port of Oakland clearly states intentions to improve environmental quality and engage with the community, setting the foundation for meaningful community input.

As the operations at the Seaport grow, the following strategies directly impact the lived experience in communities around the Seaport.

Growing revenue means that more trucks, cargo ships, and freight trains will arrive at the port and more construction and development will take place in/around the port and adjacent communities.

These strategies reflect that the Port of Oakland intends to work with and better the community. The voice of the community matters now more than ever.

The Port intends on reducing negative impacts on the environment and nearby communities through the use of technology.

  • Objective: Reduce GHG emissions* from operations and facilities.

    • Replace fueled equipment with electric equipment where feasible

    • Reduce congestion through design and technology systems improvements

*Zero and near-zero technologies refers to machinery that does not emit greenhouse gases and air pollutants as a consequence of burning fuel. Most of these technologies tend to be electric or battery powered.

*GHG emissions refers to 'greenhouse gas emissions' which are gases that increase the temperature of earth's atmosphere by trapping heat.
