How we are
organized
(see below)
Our mission is to provide a platform that encourages sustainable planning participation at the community level. We want to give the residents of Oakland an accessible platform where they can stay informed on current issues, as well as learn about the measures the Port of Oakland is taking to reduce their emissions and impact on air quality. We intend to increase transparency between the Port of Oakland and the communities of Oakland so that there is better mutual understanding about the processes and what works and what doesn’t.
Our vision is to foster direct and transparent communication between seaports and their adjacent communities as a method of addressing air pollution constrained by tension between economic prosperity and equity. In an age of global container trade expansion, we hope to reduce these tensions and serve as an example of city-industry-community collaboration to port cities around the world where both industry and community thrive.
We are a team of Sustainable Environmental Design majors in the College of Environmental Design at UC Berkeley. We are passionate about creating a world driven by socio-ecological values and designing creative solutions to foster a more circular economy during the current human impact epoch of the Anthropocene.
As seaports around the world adopt ambitious fuel reduction goals, brace for expansion as global maritime trade grows, and realize that environmental injustice no longer goes unseen, we aim to publicly connect a group of actors that can work together towards a healthy and sustainable future.
