  • Bart goes underground halfway through the port

  • If Bart is underground beforehand, along 7th St, West Oakland won’t be bisected by a major arterial above ground rail

  • This will also add more opportunity for public space in the port of oakland

7th STREET

Suggestions:

  • Create a public park/green space along the 7th street corridor leading into West Oakland

  • This will result in a more malleable interface between the port and surrounding community

  • Potentially increase safety in otherwise abandoned industrial areas

  • Improve air quality through air filtration and surface area for PM settling

  • Increase vegetation for climate change mitigation through carbon sequestration

  • Allow for a walkable route to Middle Harbor Shoreline Park

THE OAKLAND PORT ALLIANCE.

The Oakland Port Alliance is a centralized platform that encourages sustainable planning participation at the community level. We want to give the residents of Oakland an accessible platform where they can stay informed on current issues, as well as learn about the measures the Port of Oakland is taking to reduce their emissions and impact on air quality. We intend to increase transparency between the Port of Oakland and the communities of Oakland so that there is better mutual understanding about the processes and what works and what doesn’t.
